Faith 2020 celebrates the historic election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who urged all Americans to keep the faith and choose hope over fear in a time of trial. Today, we are overjoyed to say aloud “Mr. President and Madam Vice President-elect” after a week-long vote count and four years of hate-filled, destructive decisions from the current occupant of the White House. We look forward to the inauguration on January 20th, 2021.

Faith 2020 Board Chair Rev. Frederick A. Davie reflected, “The country just voted for hope over fear. We elected two committed Americans who will lead the entire country. We elected the first woman and the first person of color as Vice President. We offer our support to President-elect Biden and VP-elect Harris to create a nation where all have the opportunity to flourish!”

For too long the national narrative has been “people of faith overwhelmingly support Donald Trump.” This weekend we shout with joy and truth: People of faith helped ensure our fellow brother and sister in faith Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be victorious. Today, we are overjoyed to say aloud “Mr. President and Madam Vice President-elect!”

As the Coronavirus pandemic set in and the current Administration’s leadership failed to protect hundreds of thousands of lives and livelihoods, Faith 2020 set out to organize an inclusive and smart digital Faith strategy at scale to ensure a day like today was possible.

Organizing 1000+ faith leaders to endorse Joe Biden, gathering thousands more for virtual Faith 2020 roundtables with leaders like Stacey Abrams, Jim Clyburn, Pete Buttigieg, Tom Steyer and Al Gore, and working in partnership with a broad-based diverse coalition of faith communities and progressive organizations, Faith 2020 also ran over a dozen digital ads in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Arizona and more, along with a robust GOTV ground effort across Pennsylvania including Latinx Pentecostals and Catholics, African American church folk and white Catholics and Evangelicals. Our efforts were one crucial part of a big tent multi-faith nation-wide effort to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

“For too long the national narrative has been ‘people of faith overwhelmingly support Donald Trump,’” said Faith 2020’s co-founder and Executive Director Rev. Adam Nicholas Phillips. “This weekend we shout with joy and truth: People of faith helped ensure our fellow brother and sister in faith Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be victorious. We are so proud to celebrate the election of only our second Catholic US President and the overwhelmingly historic promise that our next Vice President is a woman of color, with roots in the proud African American pentecostal and Baptist traditions. They and their inclusive families point to a faith forward promise of American life together.”

Organizing during the Coronavirus pandemic, Faith 2020 launched with a series of nationwide live-stream faith & politics roundtables, talking about issues like public health, racism, immigration, climate change and poverty with leaders like Stacey Abrams, Al Gore and Congressman Jim Clyburn. Faith 2020 is also hosting a series of Millennial and Gen. Z faith leader gatherings in the battleground states this fall.
